Welcome to positiveequine.com, I hope you find this site informative and an insight into the many ways in which Equine Massage can benefit our horses.

There are many reasons as to why Equine Massage is so beneficial to our horses what ever their discipline. All horses can benefit from Equine Massage Treatments, from the beloved family pony through to the top quality competition horses.

Equine Massage should be used, as part of a horse’s routine in the same way in which we book our farriers and dentists. This will enable each muscle to work to its best ability, which in turn will keep our horses healthy and supple so they are able to work to their full potential.

Equine Massage can also assist with the recovery from an injury, it is a great benefit to injured muscles as it supports them whilst they recover and also gives the neighbouring muscles support, assisting them so they remain stress free.

Using various massages and stretching techniques this enable the horse to work or recover by:

• Increasing and improving circulation
• Enhancing muscle tone
• Identifying and relaxing muscle spasm
• Preventing and relieving adhesions
• Increasing the horse’s range of movement

Over half of our horses body weight is made up of muscles, so even the smallest of muscle spasm can cause our horses to feel pain and stop working to their full potential and if left can have a knock on effect with other muscle which in the long term causes greater problems.

Each horse is different, so time has to be taken when working with them to gain a true understanding of their behaviour and discipline. This then enables an individual programme to be put together which will benefit the horse, Working in conjunction with the owner a routine can be used before and after exercise enabling the muscles to warm up and cool down correctly so that again they are working to their full potential, enabling them to recover and repair themselves.
